The Betcity Russian Cup round of 16 fixture that was held at VTB Arena on Tuesday ended in a 3:0 win.
In comparison with the first official match of the year Sandro Schwarz made three changes to the starting lineup. Igor Leshchuk started at goal, while Denis Makarov and Konstantin Tyukavin advanced to the forefront.
The White-Blues took an overwhelming advantage in ball possession, but it didn't come to a large number of goalscoring chances in the first half. Only Daniil Fomin and Konstantin Tyukavin fired over the crossbar.
The best chance was created by Nikola Moro. The Croatian international escaped from opponents due to impressive dribbling and then accurately crossed to Grulev who missed the target from a few meters. Nizhny Novgorod side made the first effort in attack in the 28th minute, when Nikolay Kalinskiy tried his luck from distance.
The hosts opened the score by the added time of the first half. Fomin converted a penalty confidently after Lars Larsen played handball inside the penalty area.
The second half began with new attacks of Dynamo. Both Roman Yevgenyev and Daniil Fomin threatened Nigmatullin's goal, but the goalkeeper stood firm. However, the Muscovites managed to score once again — Makarov intercepted the ball on the right wing and made an accurate cross to Grulev, who did not miss for the second time.
After the second conceded goal, the visitors became more active, and Leschuk was forced to enter the game twice turning Larsen and Kalinskiy's attempts aside.
In the 75th minute, Arsen Zakharyan made a witty assist to Fedor Smolov, whose shot was denied by vigilant Nigmatullin. Smolov did not leave the pitch without scoring a goal: Kirill Gotsuk grabbed Dynamo centre-forward with his hands inside the penalty area, and Fedor succeeded from an eleven-meter spot. At the end of the match, two nice events for the White-Blues occurred: after a long absence, Diego Laxalt and Daniil Lesovoy came on the football pitch getting necessary playing time to restore their game rhythm.
The draw for the quarterfinal matches, which will be held in April, will take place later.
