He was one of the top Soviet goalkeepers of the 1970s. One of Lev Yashin's students. Above all, he was distinguished by his composure and reliability, which inspired confidence in the team's defenders.
He chose his position perfectly and made the right decisions in time, both when playing on the goal line and when coming out. Reaction and reliability were his distinctive features.
After his playing career, he studied to become a coach and is one of the veterans of the Dynamo goalkeeping school. Was a member of the Dynamo coaching staff at different times, as a coach:
- silver medalist of the Russian championship: 1994
- bronze medalist of the USSR championship: 1990
- bronze medalist of the Russian championship: 1992, 1993, 1997, 2008
- winner of the Russian Cup: 1995
- winner of the FNL Championship: 2016/17.
