The meeting of the 2nd round of the group stage of the Fonbet Cup of Russia, which took place at the «VTB Arena», ended with the victory of the home team with a score of 2:1
As tradition dictates, an experimental lineup took the field for the cup game, with only one of the players who started in St. Petersburg finding a place in it. That player was Yaroslav Gladyshev, who played up front. Andrey Kudravets made his debut in goal, Nicolás Marichal partnered with Ivan Lepskiy, and 19-year-old Egor Smelov appeared in midfield.
Marcel Licka entrusted the captain's armband to Gladyshev, and the young forward actively engaged in the game from the first minutes. In one episode in the opponent's penalty area, he went for the ball all the way and almost pushed it past the goalkeeper. The game proceeded at a rather erratic pace with a lot of mistakes.
Gradually, the blue-whites got used to the situation and started creating chances. First, Denis Makarov struck from 16 meters from under the defender, and David Volk caught the ball in the near corner with some difficulty. Next, Makarov delivered a delicate pass that put Jorge Carrascal practically one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but the Colombian hit just above the crossbar. Finally, he came close to earning another penalty, but the referee did not see a handball in the penalty area by Temirkan Sundukov
Dmitry Skopintsev tirelessly plied the left flank, delivering several good crosses. One of them almost fell behind Volk, but in the end, the ball landed on the goal net. In another episode, he decided to shoot from the right outside the penalty area — the visiting team's goalkeeper was on guard. A shot from the same point, but this time from the left by Makarov, went over the crossbar. And then the visitors took their first chance — Égas Cacintura drew a foul on the corner of the penalty area, and Abakar Gadzhiev curled the ball precisely into the near top corner.
The same players came out for the second half, running with renewed energy to catch up and did it very quickly. Gladyshev earned a corner kick — the visitors coped with the first cross, but the second one reached Marić, whose head deflected the ball into Valentin Paltsev's hand. This time, the referee, after watching the video replay, pointed to the spot. Carrascal confidently converted the penalty kick
At the 64th minute, Luis, Chávez and Bitello came on the field, replacing Smelov and Makarov. And soon the Mexican midfielder tested his «gun», striking from 20 meters — Volk parried the shot. The guests created an even more dangerous moment: Kasingura responded to a discount from his partner and struck into the far corner on the fly — the ball flew centimeters away from the post.
And yet, the Muscovites got their way. Skopintsev made a selection near the opponent's penalty area, rocked his opponent and sent a cross towards the goal, where Gladyshev jumped out from behind the defenders and redirected the ball into the net with his knee! In the remaining time, our team confidently brought the match to victory, which became the first in this Cup draw.
