The head coach of Dynamo Marcel Licka answered journalists' questions after the cup match against Dynamo Makhachkala ( 2:1)
I'm really happy about this victory and I'm happy for our young players. They got a lot of playing time on the field, and it was very difficult for them today. The opponents had many players who play in the RPL all the time. It's a very well-organized team that boldly goes forward, applies pressure, fights, plays short passes.
In the first half, it was hard for us: there was a lot of running, desire, fighting, but somewhere we lacked skill, and the work with the ball wasn't at the best level. There were 4 very good breakaways, but in the end we made bad decisions. Plus, we conceded a goal in the last minutes. In the locker room, Gladi, as captain, said some good words. I'm pleased with the attitude of all the guys to the game. Unfortunately, in the last 10 minutes we lacked confidence, so there was some chaos on the field.
— Today, there weren't many main players in the squad. Did you just give them a rest?
— Yesterday and today they had other work — they were preparing specifically for the RPL match against Krylia. They worked according to their program together with Roberto Fernandes.
— Jorge Carrascal took the penalty kick today. Can we say that you have decided on a regular penalty taker?
No. Today I even thought that Gladi would take the ball as captain, but he left it to Carrascal.
You said that there was a lack of skill. Can it be gained through training?
In training, we work on different situations. Today, when we needed to play vertically towards Gladyshev, we often played across the field, which means we were chasing our own tails. The opponent had time to regroup, and we had to attack positionally. In these situations, we need to do better. We sometimes are afraid to take responsibility when we can carry the ball forward and not rush with the pass. That's why I like that Carrascal is not afraid to make mistakes in such situations and often goes forward
