The 2022 World Cup qualifying encounter, which was held at the Kazan Arena, ended in a 1:0 win.

Arsen Zakharyan entered the starting line-up. On the 24th minute, Slovakian centre-back Milan Škriniar deflected the ball into his own net intercepting Arsen's low cross from the left wing. In the second half, Daniil Fomin replaced Zakharyan on the pitch.

The Russian national team earned 16 points remaining second behind Croatia due to goal difference. In the next match, the Russians will face Slovenia in Maribor on October 11.
